CaixaBank Private Banking and Senn Ferrero Asociados analyze legal and financial challenges in sports at the 1st Sports Law Conference in Barcelona

The event took place at CaixaBank’s Independent Advisory Center in Barcelona and brought together leading professionals from the sector to discuss current and future challenges and opportunities in the sports industry from a legal and wealth management perspective.

The conference addressed key topics for agents, clubs, athletes, and entities linked to the world of sports, opening the debate with an analysis of the latest developments in tax and sports law. Our Partners Eduardo Montejo and Ignacio Triguero took part, alongside Pablo Baguña, Head of Tax Advisory at CaixaBank in Catalonia. This was followed by a session focused on financing in the sports industry, a topic of increasing strategic importance in a highly competitive environment. Alfredo Garzón, Partner at Dyo Sports Finance, offered insights into the industry’s evolution in economic and financial terms and the business opportunities it presents.

The event concluded with one of the most sensitive topics in the sports ecosystem: “The day after the athlete” — a reflective space on planning for athletes’ professional and financial futures once their sports careers end. We were joined by David Villa, a key figure in the industry who is now developing educational and business projects related to football in his post-career phase, and Gonzalo Pérez de Vargas, an active handball player, who shared how he is preparing for his own “day after.” A true example to follow.

Our Partner Julio Senn and Antonio Matilla, Head of the Sports area at CaixaBank Private Banking, took part in this panel, which was of great interest for understanding how athletes should plan their finances professionally and avoid future financial problems.
